What if sea levels were to rise, how would that affect our lifestyle?
By studying past sea-level changes and using computer models, scientists estimate that by 2100, Taranaki residents can expect sea levels to rise between .5 of a metre and 1 metre, but a rise of greater than 1 metre can't be ruled out.
Would your house or bach still be safe? Will seafront homes still be sought after?
Don't think of this as a terrifying scenario, but as a heads-up to prepare for the future. How can we hold back or ready ourselves for this tide of change?

Sea levels are rising because of two main reasons. The sea is getting warmer because the atmosphere is being heated up by greenhouse gases, causing the seawater to expand. Also, the ice in the Arctic and Antarctic is melting, adding freshwater to the sea. In the graph, Global mean sea-level rise projections to the mid 2090s, the light blue shows the projected average sea rise for the globe, but because of the melting ice, scientists believe the dark blue line is also possible.
