What if Taranaki becomes a republic and sells its resources to the rest of New Zealand and the world, how would that change us? Our region is rich in dairy farming and energy resources.
Almost 90 percent of all people employed in the nation's oil and gas exploration industry are based here in Taranaki. It is also the region's largest industry by gross domestic product (GDP). All of New Zealand's producing oil and gas fields are located in the Taranaki Basin and these are predominantly located onshore, with a few discovered offshore reserves. Dairy farming is another major industry for Taranaki with about 1,800 dairy farms in the region.
What if we had to find new resources to ship off to the world through Port Taranaki? Would it be iron sand? What about water? How can we keep our region in business?
